The moorland

The Course

Eighteen holes of moorland and parkland high on Wharmton Hill.

Designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie.

Founded in May 1904 as a nine-hole course, the present eighteen was devised in 1913 by Dr Alister MacKenzie, and the current 5th green is reputed to be one of his originals. From a thousand feet up the course plays firm all year, with the par-5 14th offering a view Peter Alliss rated among the best in golf. The upper holes are moorland in character, the lower reaches parkland.
